Ongoing Conflicts

The Conflict with Annika Ljungberg, a.k.a. Mary Joe

Rednex is facing its most severe conflict ever. The previous members of Rednex; Annika ”Mary Joe” Ljungberg, Jens ”Snake” Sylsjö and Anders ”Maverick” Lundström have made several attempts to illegally perform as Rednex. They were fired from the band on January 1st, 2009 due to misbehaving. Even though they are well aware of the fact that they are breaking the law and showing a deep lack of respect and good judgment, are they continuously trying to persuade venues to book them as Rednex.

For them to tour as Rednex is just as fucked up and illegal as if Bono would try to book shows and lectures pretending to be Nelson Mandela. It is messed up, pathetically funny and disturbing to the point that one might suspect more than a touch of insanity.

This fraud has happened on more than a dozen occasions. Reports from some of them are available below. Some events have been canceled with negative and brutal economical consequences for the venue and promoters. Some events have gone unnoticed until after they have taken place and those bookers now risk severe penalties for having hosted an illegal event and Ljungberg, Sylsjö and Lundström will face legal charges for their unscrupulous activities and hopefully prison.

They have systematically marketed themselves as Rednex, but when they have been caught, changed the marketing of the show to be marketed as ”Cotton Eye Joe Show by the Rednex Band”. Needless to say, this is completely unacceptable and is a disgusting way to fool Rednex fans, the public and the media. Anyone who is falsely marketing an event as Rednex will face a condition to either cancel the gig or face prosecution.

You will be able to follow the progress of the whole conflict here in every juicy detail. We will hunt down any of their collaborators and sue these bandits on every ounce that we can muster, and rest assure, this bucket of goo will not go back to its hide-out for a few years as it will wobble itself through the court systems.

One can summon the whole situation in one word: WARNING!!!

Do not deal with these people! It will... (to put it mildly)... not be to your benefit...

If you have any information on the performances listed below, please contact us.

The media, national and local, has been kind enough to highlight this situation. We recommend foremost that you read the highly ambitious 14-page article on Rednex in the music magazine Magasinet Novell. It is the most accurate and thorough article that has ever been written about Rednex, the origin and history of the music and the band and the conflict with ex-Redneck Annika Ljungberg. Here are links to read the article in Swedish and in English (by Google Translator).

Here are a few other links to more or less accurate articles on this conflict - Musikindustrin, Nyheter24.se, Metro, Nerikes Allehanda, Event News, Göteborgs Posten.

We have also sent a letter to 100's of bookers, the Swedish version was posted at EventMarket. For other articles in Swedish, use Google translator.
